Our review

The Blink Mini 2K+ is the third generation of Amazon's compact plug-in indoor camera, and the upgrade to 2K resolution makes a real difference. At just 2x2 inches, it is one of the smallest security cameras available — small enough to place on a shelf without being obtrusive.

The 2K video is noticeably sharper than the previous 1080p model, with up to 4x zoom for closer looks. Color night vision with a built-in LED spotlight means you get usable footage even in complete darkness — not the grainy black-and-white of older models. Two-way talk with noise cancellation lets you speak to people (or pets) through the camera.

Setup is dead simple: plug in via USB-C, download the Blink app, connect to your Wi-Fi. Motion detection sends alerts to your phone, and it works with Alexa for voice-controlled live views on Echo Show devices. The camera can also serve as a plug-in chime for Blink Video Doorbells.

The honest downsides: video history requires a Blink subscription plan (from $3/month) — without it, you only get live view and real-time alerts, no recordings. Some users report Wi-Fi connectivity dropouts. Person and vehicle detection require the subscription. And the 2K+ model is only 49 reviews deep (brand new), so long-term reliability data is limited — but the previous Blink Mini generations have proven track records.

FAQ

Do I need a subscription?

The camera works for live view and real-time alerts without a subscription. A Blink plan (from $3/month) adds video recording history, smart detection (person/vehicle), and cloud storage.

Can I use it outdoors?

It is designed for indoor use. For outdoor use, you need the separate Blink Weather Resistant Power Adapter (sold separately).

Does it need batteries?

No. It plugs in via USB-C for continuous, always-on power. No batteries to charge or replace.

How is the night vision?

The 2K+ model has color night vision with a built-in LED spotlight — a significant upgrade from the black-and-white infrared of older models. You can see colours and details in complete darkness.
